NOIDA: Business and product innovations and the importance of building trust took centrestage on Saturday as several bright startup ideas were discussed and applauded on the closing day of Bennett University’s second entrepreneurship summit.
The Spark Tank senior round was won by IIT Kanpur’s Dentifrice, an AI-driven at-home platform for oral health care.Bennett University’s Concern AI, a disease detection app, placed second while Parul University Vadodara’s Alien Innovation, a tech-driven handstick for the visually impaired, took the third spot. The ideas underlined the focus of university campuses and young innovators on daily concerns that they want to take a crack at solving with the latest tech and tools at their disposal.
Speaking at Bennovate 2.0 on Saturday, chief guest Sanjiv Singh, joint secretary at the central government’s department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT), advised students on various parameters of business operations.
“Building trust among customers is of utmost importance for any business. Having a distinct plan of how to scale up the business and the cost-effectiveness of the same is equally important for sustainability and growth,” he said, adding, “You need to have a missionary mindset and not a mercenary mindset.”
As he visited stalls set up by startups at the summit, Singh offered help in registering with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), the government’s e-commerce website that connects buyers and sellers. “India is on the cusp of a groundbreaking era in entrepreneurship and innovation and the era of ‘amrit kaal’ is here for the startup ecosystem. I expect the youth to focus on manufacturing products that are viable and visible in the global market,” Singh said.
Hitesh Oberoi, CEO of Naukri and guest of honour at the event, said the government had done “a phenomenal job” with Digital India. “Future actions lie in new technology, green energy, electric vehicles, AI, robotics and IT and offer a viable space for youngsters to build their startups. Persistence, hard work, tenacity and determination play a pivotal role in shaping your startup journey and to stay successful in the game. Have the right attitude in addition to the right aptitude with high levels of integrity,” said Oberoi.
Mahendra Swarup, founder of Venture Gurukool and Ankurit Capital, Ntasha S, co-founder and managing partner at Ankurit Capital and Sonali Jha, founder and CEO at Cunomial, were the jury members for Spark Tank. Those who couldn’t make the cut at Spark Tank were given internship opportunities at the internship fair.
